CC0006 Basics of Report Writing

Using AI for Your Work

Using AI can enhance your work, but it must be used responsibly. The SARR (Seek, Acknowledge, Reference, Record) approach can help to ensure that your use of AI is ethical, transparent, and aligned with academic or professional expectations.

Seek Guidance — Consult your supervisor/faculty/school for clarification on appropriate AI use.
Acknowledge AI assistance in your work.
✅ Reference — Include proper in-text citations and references for any AI-produced material in your work.
Record prompts, responses, and dates to ensure transparency in AI usage and work documentation.

Types of Information Resources

Some different types of information sources that you may consider for your report are:

  • Websites (organisation, government, campaign)
  • Government documents
  • News articles
  • Papers – discussion, working, white, etc
  • Reports – technical, company, organisational
  • Books, journal articles, conference papers

Do ensure your information sources are credible and reliable. A good way of ensuring this is to apply the CRAAP test
