Introduction

Yew Boon is the Divisional Head of the Knowledge Services Division, Office of Information, Knowledge and Library Services (OIKLS). He leads 3 teams - Digital Scholarship and Education, Academic Engagement and Digital Innovations to design and offer a suite of customised and embedded workshops to help users acquire information and digital skills (in the areas of digital publishing, data visualisation/analytics and textmining), provide innovative reference/research services and explore new ways to showcase research outputs. Recent projects include initiating a series of data literacy programmes using Tableau, textmining tools and open source platforms, enhancing NTU Academic Profiles and creating content to support the Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus initiative and interdisciplinary collaborative core courses.

Professional Experience

Yew Boon provides strategic leadership for advancing and implementing digital scholarship and academic engagement initiatives with focus on digital humanities, online publishing, reference services and data visualisation. He works collaboratively with different communities in NTU to enhance the support for teaching, research, publishing and knowledge sharing. Examples of completed projects include developing the Teach 311 portal, hosting a peer-reviewed open access journal, creating an online knowledge community, implementing a campus-wide altmetrics service and consulting with faculty members on incorporating digital approaches and training into assignments (eg. use of Tableau and ArcGIS).

Prior to the current appointment, he has headed the Humanities & Social Sciences Library, Research Data Management, Scholarly Publishing and Impact and the New Media Group, advising researchers on the effective use of digital tools and social media platforms to showcase their research, build online repositories and create digital exhibits or ePortfolios.
