What are Open Educational Resources?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research materials in any medium – digital or otherwise – that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions.   (Source: UNESCO)
 

Benefits and attributes of OERs
OERs are licensed in a manner that provides users with free and perpetual permission to engage in the 5R activities:

• Retain
• Reuse
• Revise
• Remix
• Redistribute

OERs can take many forms, such as:
Full courses, Course modules, Lectures, Games, Teaching materials, Assignments

OERs can be accessed via

• Institutional repositories and websites
• Vendor platforms subscribed by universities
